The first event in the Italian F4 Championship, and Alex’s debut in car racing, is complete!
The weekend turned out to be tough, as was expected, but a very important step for Alex in building on his karting experience. The 3 race event started with 2 qualifying sessions that allocate grid positions for race 1 and race 3. Alex qualified 12th and 15th respectively in a field of 26 cars. Race 2 grid is based on the finishing positions of race 1 with the first 10 reversed.
Race 1 – Alex started 12th and mid race had to stop to replace the front wing, hit while attempting to move into the top 10. Classified 20th.
Race 2 – Started 20th and finished 9th after an outstanding climb up through the field. The link below is to the video footage of this event.
Race 3: After starting 15th Alex was forced to retire with a front suspension failure.
All in all a great learning experience which will no doubt be banked ready for the next event at Monza at the end of May.
Next track session will be practice at Monza on the 19th in preparation for the race
