Getting a good result in Formula 3 is highly dependent on qualifying in the top 3 rows. Alex qualified 16th which turned into 14th when two cars were penalised. As a demonstration of how close it is, if Alex hadn’t dropped two tenths in sector two he would have been 6th. It’s so close!
A good start in race 1 and good pace was compromised early when a Red Bull car rammed Alex from behind and spun him around. After waiting for the entire field to go by he was able to turn around, catch up to the field and pass some cars to end up 21st. With such a tight field, being turned around compromised his weekend but he would certainly make his presence felt in race 2.
A clutch issue compromised Alex’s start and at the end of lap 1 he was 29th and trying to catch up to the back of the field. His pace was excellent and within a few laps he had worked his way up to 16th and preparing to pass his teammate.
Approaching turn 3 at the end of the up hill climb, Alex braked behind his teammate but for reasons yet to be confirmed his rears locked sending him into a sideways slide and he couldn’t avoid a minor contact with his teammate on corner entry. With wheels locked between both cars unfortunately both drivers were forced to retire. There were no points in play but it’s not the ending Alex or his team had hoped for.
All focus now on Silverstone hoping for some better outcomes but confident that good progress is being made and results should be just around the corner!
