Four out of the eight days of planned testing before the season opener at Vallelunga are now complete.
The first 2 days were spent at Franciacorta and Adria, both are tracks with rounds of the championship in 2015. Alex used these days to learn the track with his engineer and to re-accustom himself to the car after 3 months of non activity.
There was no reference data for Franciacorta given there have not been F4 races there before, however times clocked at Adria were very encouraging and suggest there’s a very solid base to work with this year. These 2 days also cemented the strong working relationship and understanding developing between Alex and engineer Ruggero – plenty of hard work but also many jokes and laughs along the way! After Adria it was off to Monza.
After arriving at Monza on the 1st April and taking in the magical atmosphere it was straight into the first session at 9am. This was always going to be an important day as it was the the first comparison with the 3 drivers of the Prema Power team. They are an outstanding team with many championship wins and they are without doubt the benchmark in F4 and F3 both in results and professionalism. They are also considered the Ferrari ‘Junior Team’ given they host drivers going through the Ferrari Driver Academy.
The outcome was that Alex was immediately on the pace from the first session and was exchanging fastest laps with them all day. Alex finished the day 3rd fastest out of 8 drivers present. On the second day his best time came down by 8 tenths and was again 3rd fastest, splitting the Prema team drivers.
It’s a good start to pre-season testing that we hope continues into Vallelunga on the 7th and 8th of April followed by
Mugello on the 14th and 15th.
