The progress of team BRM continued at round four in Phillip Island. In race one Mark started third on the grid after an outstanding qualifying and immediately gained a position at the start. He maintained this position when handing over to Alex who showed great pace in not only maintaining second place but slowly creeping up to the lead car, Mostert in the Ferrari. The initial ten second gap proved too large a gap to recover but Alex managed to reduce it to six seconds.
Alex’s qualifying was compromised by a red flag with only a few minutes to go in the qualifying session. Unfortunately the strategy for the session had left him without a fast lap to that point and he therefore started only eighth. Alex was able to stay with the lead pack and then handed over to Mark who had another excellent stint and finished fourth.
